All musculoskeletal injuries present a diagnostic challenge. Perhaps none more so than injuries to the shoulder. With its tremendous range of motion, the shoulder has a high propensity for a variety of injuries. Each decade of life can bring a unique subset of injuries to this highly specific and functional joint. Each sport or work-related activity can bring its own unique set of injuries as well.
The functional anatomy of the shoulder is complex. Injuries can occur in isolation or to multiple structures. Damage to one structure over time will lead to failure or injury to other structures. Further complicating the issue is whether the injury is traumatic or repetitive. Athletes are not alone when it comes to shoulder injuries. Many of our patients come from the work force and have sustained their own unique type of injury from repetition or direct trauma. Additionally, the elderly patient is susceptible to falls with fractures involving the bones of the shoulder.
In order to successfully treat these injuries your orthopedic surgeon has to have a fundamental understanding of the complex anatomy associated with the shoulder joint.

Arthroscopic management of subacromial impingement and acromioclavicular joint injury.
Arthroscopic and open management of shoulder instability including recurrent dislocation.
Supracapsular repair for massive rotator cuff tears.*
Total shoulder arthroplasty for glenohumeral arthritis that has failed nonsurgical treatment.
Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for the rotator cuff deficient patient experiencing pain
Post surgically we make sure that you and your therapist understand the nature of any surgical treatment and what is expected in your convalescence. *This procedure requires the use of a specialized allograft tissue.
